Located at an altitude of1700 metres, on the slopes of Monte Avanza and near Sorgenti del Piave, where the river begins, Malga Casera Vecchia can be reached easily from Sappada along the provincial road which runs from Cima Sappada to Sorgenti del Piave. Open from mid-June to mid-September, goats, sheep and cows are bred here, and the malga produces a mixed cow/goat’s milk cheese called "Malga Casera Vecchia", goat’s cheese, fresh and smoked ricotta and malga butter, all of which can be purchased directly from the little shop. The surrounding area is excellent for mushroom picking and trekking. You can park your car along the provincial road and walk up to the malga in about 10 minutes.
